Rowan Class - Year 4

Welcome to Rowan Class. We hope you enjoy looking at what

we have been learning.

Summer Term 2017

German Exchange

We enjoyed the German children visiting us for the first part of our exchange. All the Year 4 children from Slip End and Caddington had a fun time at Stockwood Park and an activity day at school which included games, craft, team building and swimming.

Spring Term 2017

Viking Day

Rowan class had a special Viking day at Caddington School where we spent the day exploring what life was like during the times of the Vikings. We enjoyed a variety of activities and the highlight was making a life size Viking Longboat.

World Book Day

World Book Day is always a fantastic day at school and today was no exception. We celebrated our love of books by dressing up as our favourite character. Rowan Class made a great effort and showcased a super variety of both traditional and modern characters. These ranged from witches and wizards, to grannies and children. One child even write their own book so they could feature themself as the main character!

Hazard Alley Safety Centre

We started the term off with a trip to Hazard Alley Safety Centre and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We experienced a wide variety of different scenarios which could pose dangers to us and we

learnt how we can keep ourselves safe in these situations.

The highlight of the trip was making 999 Emergency calls in a phonebox.

Everyone did a fantastic job and raised the alarm for the relevant Emergency Services.

Autumn Term 2016

Science

We have been learning about Electricity and we've made a variety of circuits. We had fun lighting bulbs, making buzzers buzz and powering propellors. We also learnt about conductors and insulators and discovered a variety of each within our class.

History and Art

We have been learning about the ancient Mayan civilisation this term.

We learnt a tremendous amount about their beliefs, hierarchy and traditions.
One tradition was to weave and we made our own looms and weaved our own mini blankets.

It was great fun whilst also being a challenging activity.

We think our blankets looks lovely and we hope you enjoy looking at them.

PE

This half term Rowan Class have been creating a Haka based on those they have seen professional rugby players perform. They have been learning the different movements, facial expressions and noises and we think they are brilliant. They could give the 'All Blacks' a run for their money.

Art

Rowan Class have been learning about different textures and materials and which textures

may be suitable for different purposes.

We all designed an 'unsuitable' cup and you certainly wouldn't have been able to drink out of them.

Once all this was done, it was time to film. Many, many, many photos later our films were done. Just a few finishing touches and ..... Hollywood Here we come.

Living Eggs

We received an incubator and eggs from Living eggs and sat back and waited. Much excitement was had across the whole school as we watched our eggs hatch over a few days. We had 4 males and 2 females. They were moved from the incubator into a bigger container with a light to keep them warm. Before long the chicks had grown in confidence and were eating a lot of food. It was a great experience watching them grow.
